A brow lift is also commonly called a forehead lift. It is a procedure that is designed to minimize wrinkles and creases that appear on the forehead and between the eyes and may raise a sagging browline, returning it to a more youthful position. A browlift may also be combined with other cosmetic surgeries such as eye lid lift, facelift or facial skin resurfacing.
About Brow Lift Surgery
After a consultation where the surgeon will explain the procedure, you will need to prepare for the browlift surgery. This will include visiting the plastic surgery center where you will most likely need to obtain preoperative lab work. Your medical condition will be assessed and you will be given pre-op instructions for brow lift cosmetic surgery.
Brow lift surgery is a major medical procedure which will require anesthesia; this means you will need to have someone available to drive you home after the surgery. During the plastic surgery browlift, the cosmetic surgeon will make incisions in locations along the hairline. This may be done with an endoscope in “endoscopic brow lift” procedures and will minimize the appearance of a scar after the procedure.
A temporal brow lift will involve incisions made along the “temples” of the head and will be done to tighten the skin to minimize wrinkles between the eyes. A lateral brow lift will involve incisions made at the top of the forehead to reduce wrinkles on the face and lift the brow to a more youthful position.
Some women may have an eye lid lift at the same time which will involve and incision made around the eye brow or in the crease of the eye. During the surgery, excess skin will be removed and remaining skin will be tightened and stitched in place.
Recovery from Brow Lift Surgery
After the surgery, the incisions will be closed carefully to minimize scarring. Bandages will be placed on the face and should be left in place as long as advised. Most patients experience pain, swelling and bruising from brow lift surgery and are advised to take several days for bed rest and up to a week off of normal activities. After 5 to 10 days, stitches may be removed and the appearance will be much improved but healing will not be complete for several months.
A mini-brow lift may be an option for some women who do not need a great deal of skin removed, while others may combine a brow lift with other procedures. Whatever the scope of the surgery you are considering, remember that the skill and experience of the cosmetic surgeon is the most important factor and not the brow lift surgery cost.
Getting browlift surgery may eliminate or delay the need for a more advanced procedure such as a face lift and the results will be long lasting for most people.
