A breast lift, or Mastopexy, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that involves extracting extra skin and tightening localized tissue, then elevating the breasts into a normal position. The effects are a more visually appealing breast shape.
A breast lift works best for women who have complaints about having flat breast shapes; possess nipples which fall underneath the natural breast crease; having one breast that is lower than the other one; possess areolas and nipples that point downward; or who have enlarged areolas and skin that is stretched out.
Breast lifts do not use a breast implant to change the shape; the plastic surgeon just works with women’s natural breast areas.
Factors Contributing to Sagging Breasts
There are numerous factors that contribute to sagging breasts. These include a family history of breast sagging, gravitational reasons, the normal aging process, loss or gain of weight, skin elasticity loss, breast feeding and pregnancy.
Good candidates for breast lifts include women who do not smoke, maintain a healthy weight, have realistic expectations and who are in good health.
Breast Augmentation
For those who would like to have a bigger size to the shape of their breasts, breast enlargement plastic surgery would probably be your best option. The best candidates for this cosmetic surgery procedure include women who feel unsatisfied with their breast size; are self-conscious in their appearance; have saggy-looking breasts due to childbirth, weight loss or aging; and those who realize their breasts look out of balance with each other.
Types of Plastic Surgery Breast Implants
For those who choose not to have a breast lift performed, instead wish for a fuller breast size, breast implants can be used to help create a more voluptuous look to their breasts. The only difference between silicone and saline implants is the solution with which they are filled.
A majority of all breast implants are made with a silicone elastomer shell. Saline breast implants are filled with a saline solution and silicone breast implants are filled with a silicone gel.
Breast Reduction
For those who wish neither to opt for breast lifting nor breast implants, a breast reduction plastic surgery may be the best option for you. A breast reduction surgery is a procedure, unlike the breast lift and breast implants surgery, in that it reduces the size of the breasts.
The surgery also works to correct the areola around the nipple, to make it smaller. Good candidates for this surgery involve women who have experienced back and neck problems due to their large breast size; have poor posture; possess scars and impressions on the shoulders due to bra straps; and who have breathing problems and rashes under the breast skin.
Women who are not good candidates include those who are under age eighteen, and women who intend to breastfeed their children. In these cases, it would be better to have a breast lift performed.
